Awakened is spread across three separate beats, following Isaac and Carver as they attempt to escape from Tau Volantis and get back to Earth in one piece. Granted, we are talking about a game where alien sculptures wub-wub and transform people into spider-like necro-beasts with super-vulnerable limbs, so you do sort of need to just play along. The survival rate for that is estimated at around zero.

After all, in the finale, they were caught in a free-fall through the heart of a cataclysmic atmospheric storm kickstarted by a moon-sized Necromorph collapsing into the planet. ThatРІР‚в„ўs appropriate, because I seriously wanted to know the same thing. Awakened picks up the story as Isaac and co-op sidekick John Carver attempt to figure out how they actually survived. IРІР‚в„ўm sure youРІР‚в„ўll have plenty of time to play it before Dead Space 4 comes out.If you finished the main game and watched the credits roll to the end, you know that Isaac Clarke is alive. If youРІР‚в„ўre not a big fan, IРІР‚в„ўd just wait until it drops in price. However, itРІР‚в„ўs price of $10 is a bit steep for an hourРІР‚в„ўs worth of play that offers little new. Not to mention the DLC has some of the better moments in Dead Space 3. It picks up on the games initial cliffhanger, and leaves you with a bigger one that those of you interested in the Dead Space story will want to see. Ultimately, IРІР‚в„ўd recommend this for serious Dead Space fans. It does end with an even bigger cliffhanger than before, and IРІР‚в„ўm hoping it will come to be Dead Space 4. Also youРІР‚в„ўre left with unanswered questions,Р’В particularly regarding the main games ending and how itР’В transferredР’В to the DLC, and Isaac and Carver seem to have no clue, as I do. Like with Severed, I was able to beat Awakened in a single sitting of about an hour and fifteen minutes. The atmosphere in this DLC is amazing, which ultimately left me thinking РІР‚Сљwhere was all this during the main game?РІР‚СњР”Р„ big downfall is the length. ItРІР‚в„ўs a shame they missed out in the main game (at least from the perspective of Isaac.)Р”Р„wakened definitely has a creepier, more morbid feel to it, and jump scares are way more present here. In fact, these hallucination moments are the best parts of possibly Dead Space 3 as a whole. ItРІР‚в„ўs odd that they see the exact same hallucinations, but the hallucinations were one of my favorite things about DS2, so IРІР‚в„ўm glad theyРІР‚в„ўve made a return. Isaac and Carver are now sharingР’В hallucinations and are both quite confused. The story told in Awakened picks up right after the end of the main game.

It also makes sense in the story to actually back track like this, which Severed had no reason to be doing so within itРІР‚в„ўs story. Because of the redesign, I wasnРІР‚в„ўt so distraught about going through the same area again, though it was itching in the back of my head. Thankfully though, this time they redecorated the levels enough to actually give off their appearance that itРІР‚в„ўs somewhere new. As with Severed, it comes off as very lazy on the development teams part. While we could be exploring some new area in the Dead Space Universe, weРІР‚в„ўre instead treated to the same locations we just ran through.

Except this time itРІР‚в„ўs much better.Р”В«y РІР‚Сљcopy-and-paste jobРІР‚Сњ I mean they use some of the exact same levels as in the main game, but you run through them backwards. Oddly enough, Visceral didnРІР‚в„ўt learn the first time because, Awakened does the same thing. I complained about the short length, and the backtracking/copy-and-paste job on the level design.
